Denis Plante grew up in an artistic family in Montreal, surrounded by early music instruments, costumes and theatre set pieces. After a stint in Argentina he settled in Quebec, where he founded the ensemble Tango Boréal. A consummate bandoneon player and charismatic soloist, he is prominent in the national and international tango community and is a frequent guest artist with orchestras and chamber ensembles. He has received multiple awards for his impressionistic creations and compositions, including the Prix Opus for Recording of the Year (World Music) for his albums Tango Boréal (2010–11) and Pampa Blues (2014–15).
