Taiwanese bassoonist Chia-Yu Hsu is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at The Glenn Gould School, where they receive the Full Tuition Scholarship and study with Glenn Einschlag. Starting February 2022, Chia-Yu joined the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony as an extra bassoonist/contrabassoonist. Prior to coming to Canada, Chia-Yu served as the principal bassoon at the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra and a regular bassoon member at the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Chia-Yu is also an experienced soloist and was selected by Zubin Mehta to perform Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto, KV191 in Charles Bronfman Auditorium in Tel Aviv under his baton in 2015. Chia-Yu earned a Master’s Degree from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music (Tel Aviv University), and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
