A multidisciplinary creator, Amélie Poirier initially trained in dance before discovering theatre and puppetry. She studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette in Charleville-Mézières, France, and has a DESS (diploma in specialized graduate studies) in contemporary puppet theatre from UQAM in Montréal.

After a career as a performer and designer of performative and auto-fictional plays, she began writing for young children in 2019 with the play DADAAA, for which she was awarded the Beaumarchais-SACD (Société des Auteurs et Compositeurs Dramatiques) grant. Since its creation, this show has been presented nearly 200 times in Europe. Her second play for young children, SCOOOOTCH!, premiered in 2021 in France and Quebec, each production featuring a local cast. The show has since been presented nearly 150 times in France, Quebec and Eastern Europe (Bulgaria, Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, etc.). Her next creation, 20ème rue ouest (2023), a blend of dance, photography and puppetry, is intended for audiences age 12 and up and will be performed in public spaces. Amélie’s research is supported in France by Les Nouveaux Ballets du Nord-Pas de Calais based in Lille, and in Quebec by Synthèse Additive in Montréal. Amélie is also an associate artist at the Théâtre des Ilets: Centre Dramatique National de Montluçon-Auvergne and the Théâtre le Grand Bleu: scène conventionnée art, enfance et jeunesse de Lille.
