Alec Rich is a tuba player currently based in the Chicago area.. An active freelancer, Rich has performed across the Midwest and Northeast, with ensembles such as the Northwest Indiana Symphony, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and more. A versatile performer outside of orchestral work, Rich has performed in a wide variety of settings, including big bands, brass quintets, contemporary ensembles, marching bands, and as a soloist. In 2019, with the help of sponsors such as the New Britain Symphony Orchestra, Family Promise of CT, and South Church of New Britain, Rich went on a Connecticut based solo concert tour. Additionally, in 2018, Rich received a grant to travel to Uganda and teach through Brass for Africa throughout the capital city of Kampala. Rich can be heard on several recordings in the Naxos Music Library, most recently, the Oberlin Concertos with Xak Bjerken.
Rich completed his undergraduate studies at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, studying with Dennis Nulty of the Detroit Symphony. He is currently in his graduate studies at Northwestern University studying with Matt Gaunt and Gene Pokorny.
