World Class Instruction for Young Artists at the 16th Summer Music Institute, June 5 – 28, 2014 in Ottawa

The Summer Music Institute has become a world-renowned magnet for the best young Canadian and international classical artists, providing world-class instruction for especially gifted young musicians, conductors and composers.

About the SMI

In 1999, the National Arts Centre's Music Director Pinchas Zukerman founded the Young Artists program (YAP) with just 10 students. Over the years, the program has grown to include the Conductors program(CP) and the Composers program (CMP). Together, they make up what we know today as the Summer Music Institute.

With an exceptional international faculty and students of the highest calibre, the Summer Music Institute brings the world to Canada and Canada to the world. By 2013, over 1000 young people have come to Ottawa from across Canada and around the world to experience intensive learning, passionate pedagogy and new-found friendships at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.
