Lucinda Davis speaks about The Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God

NAC English Theatre opens its 2015/16 season with Djanet Sears’ The Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God, arriving after a triumphant four-week run in Montreal at the Centaur Theatre.

Created by Governor General's Literary Award-winning playwright Djanet Sears, Adventures is a potent and profoundly emotional story of living, dying and the power of forgiveness. "The weight of this play is very heavy, says actor Lucinda Davis who plays the role of Rainey Johnson. "But there's so much lightness and mirth and song and family."

The family that Lucinda speaks of is the company of the play, which includes the NAC English Theatre 2015-2016 Ensemble. This core group of actors is the inspiration for the selection of plays in this season. "I'm in a cast of twenty-two people surrounded by love, surrounded by friendship, surrounded by a very strong village." says Davis.

The play has received rave reviews from the critics including the Toronto Star:  "Five Stars “Brilliant. One of the most profound, yet joyous new Canadian plays...a richly rewarding script.”
