Join Ottawa's own Jill Zmud for the release of her long-awaited second album, which weaves together pieces of Jill's own life and reel-to-reel tapes left behind by her musician uncle. As Jill teams up with her band on stage, expect equal parts grit, gospel, heartache and hope.

Now, the last album we heard from Jill was four years ago, the collection of torch-folk tunes as we quietly drive by. The album landed on many “Best of 2009“ lists and helped label Jill as “One to Watch”. For Jill, making the album was also a fantastic introduction to the incredible music scene of Ottawa, as it was produced by musical wizard Dave Draves (Jim Bryson, Kathleen Edwards and more) at Little Bullhorn Studios. That led to some pretty fantastic opportunities in the festival circuit, and singing with the likes of Jim Cuddy, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and Amelia Curran.

After the loss of her wonderful father Bill in 2011, Jill took a break from the music scene. In the songs she’s written since, she draws on the experience of losing her father and wonders about others who have gone before her. Her late uncle Eddy Clynton of the Canadian band Witness is one such figure. Jill found an old box of his reel-to-reel tapes in her parents’ basement which contained never-before-heard songs written by her uncle. Those songs set off another spark inside her, resulting in the slow-burning fire you’ll experience at the NAC Fourth Stage.

For those who’ve been patiently waiting for Album #2, Jill says thank you for waiting, and it’s finally here. And for those who’ve been impatient, Jill understands you even more.
