Beethoven’s playful Eighth Symphony is known for its “metronome” movement—a tribute to a then-new time-keeping gadget (there’s an app for that, you know). Our Concertmaster and Benjamin Hochman perform a rarely heard double concerto by the precocious 14 year-old Mendelssohn. Plus one of Haydn’s great “London” symphonies composed when he was the toast of the English capital and audiences flocked to hear his latest.
