Tchaikovsky's "Little Russian"
NAC Southam Hall
- Rossini Overture to La Gazza Ladra
- Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 2, “Little Russian”
- Mozart Piano Concerto No. 24
Rising English conductor Alexander Shelley conducts Tchaikovsky’s exuberant “Little Russian,” a work full of lively folk melodies from the Ukraine, a country referred to as “Little Russia” in Tchaikovsky’s day. Having appeared to great acclaim, German pianist Lars Vogt makes his NAC Orchestra debut performing Mozart’s sublime Piano Concerto No. 24, a mature work considered one of the composer’s greatest, and a piece that even Beethoven admired.
