THE NATIONAL ARTS CENTRE PARTICIPATES IN MENTAL HEALTH DAY

October 10, 2014 – OTTAWA (Canada) – The National Arts Centre (NAC) is pleased to participate in the World Health Organization’s Mental Health Day. This year the Amanda Todd Legacy Society has reached out to organizations around the world to “Light Up Purple” on October 10th, to remember loved ones who have died from mental illness and to recognize those who struggle to recover.

Canadians are being encouraged to wear purple, light a purple candle, or to shine a purple light in their homes, offices, or workplaces to raise awareness about World Mental Health Day. World Mental Health Day provides an opportunity for stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done.

On the second anniversary of Amanda Michelle Todd’s death, a 15 year old from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, who committed suicide after suffering for months from cyberbullying, the NAC is pleased to participate in this international effort to protect young people from the affects of cyber-bullying and to encourage more awareness and support for mental health.
