Superstar Leila Josefowicz (“a superb fiddle player” ~ Chicago Tribune) plays Stravinsky’s 1931 Baroque-inspired concerto, a brilliant combination of energy, wit, and charm—a perfect match for this adventurous and hugely gifted violinist. Dvořák wanted to convey “impressions and greetings from the New World” in his Ninth Symphony—like a musical postcard from America—with lovely melodies, bold horns calls, and an unforgettable theme. Haydn’s symphony, full of humorous musical shenanigans and sound effects, is the jolly curtain raiser.
