  Violin Erica Miller

  Erica Miller was born to a musical family in Queens, New York, and began her musical education at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College at the age of three. She received her bachelor’s in violin performance from the Schulich School of Music at McGill University, where she fell in love with Canada. After an active 12-year freelance career in Philadelphia, Miller and her husband returned to Canada where she plays regularly with the National Arts Centre Orchestra and Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. She is the newly appointed concertmaster of the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra. 

  Erica Miller est née dans une famille de musiciens dans le Queens à New York, et a commencé son éducation musicale à l’Aaron Copland School of Music du Queens College à l’âge de trois ans. Elle a obtenu son baccalauréat en interprétation pour violon de l’École de musique Schulich de l’Université McGill, où elle est tombée amoureuse du Canada. Après une carrière active comme violoniste indépendante pendant 12 ans à Philadelphie, Miller et son mari sont revenus au Canada où elle joue régulièrement avec l’Orchestre du Centre national des Arts et l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. Elle est la nouvelle violon solo de l’Orchestre symphonique d’Ottawa.

  Viola Paul Casey

  

  Viola Paul Casey

  Paul Casey was born and raised in Ottawa and is an avid orchestral, chamber, and solo musician and pedagogue. 

  Paul is one of the newest additions to the National Arts Centre Orchestra viola section; as a soloist, Paul has performed with NACO as part of FanFair, the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, and has given recitals in Canada and the United States. He was the 2011 recipient of the NACO Bursary Competition’s Harold Crabtree Foundation Award.  

  Paul obtained a MMus and BMus from Indiana University and the University of Ottawa, respectively, and most recently studied at McGill University.  

  Paul is on faculty at the Leading Note Foundation’s OrKidstra Program and was string coach for the Ottawa Junior Youth Orchestra. He is also a member of the Silflay String Quartet with his wife, cellist Karen Kang, and violinists Leah Roseman and Mark Friedman. 

  Paul Casey, qui est né et a grandi à Ottawa, est un musicien d’orchestre, chambriste, soliste et pédagogue très actif.

  Il compte parmi les plus récentes recrues de la section des altos de l’Orchestre du Centre national des Arts. Il s’est produit comme soliste à la Fanfoire de l’Orchestre du CNA et avec l’Orchestre symphonique d’Ottawa; il a aussi donné des récitals au Canada et aux États-Unis. Il a remporté en 2011 le prix de la Fondation Harold Crabtree attribué dans le cadre du Concours de la Bourse de l’Orchestre du CNA.

  Paul a un baccalauréat en Musique de l’Université d’Ottawa et une maîtrise en Musique de l’Université de l’Indiana. Il a suivi des cours récemment à l’Université McGill.

  Il enseigne au Programme OrKidstra de la Leading Note Foundation et a été répétiteur pour la section des cordes de l’Ottawa Junior Youth Orchestra. Avec sa conjointe, la violoncelliste Karen Kang, et les violonistes Leah Roseman et Mark Friedman, il forme le Quatuor à cordes Silflay.

  Cello Karen Kang

  Karen Kang is a Korean-Canadian cellist who has performed internationally as a soloist and as an avid chamber musician. She has performed and collaborated with some of the most distinguished musicians, including the Borromeo String Quartet, the Parker Quartet, Pinchas Zukerman, Natalia Gutman, Frans Helmerson, and Lynn Harrell. She is an alumnus of Ravinia-Steans Institute, the Banff Centre, and Internationale Sommerakademie Mozarteum Salzburg. In 2011, Kang resided in Hamburg, Germany, where she toured and performed as the cellist of the Saguaro Piano Trio. She now resides in Ottawa, where she performs regularly with the National Arts Centre Orchestra.

  Karen Kang est une violoncelliste canadienne-coréenne qui s’est produite à l’échelle internationale comme soliste et comme musicienne de chambre passionnée. Elle s’est produite et a collaboré avec quelques-uns des musiciens les plus distingués, dont le Borromeo String Quartet, le Parker Quartet, ainsi que Pinchas Zukerman, Natalia Gutman, Frans Helmerson et Lynn Harrell. Elle est une ancienne élève de l’Institut Ravinia-Steans, du Banff Centre et de l’Internationale Sommerakademie Mozarteum Salzburg.
