The wind, that is: someone’s life. There is nothing that does not touch something else.”

This is a very moving testimonial by Jeroen Brouwers, who as a child was subjected to the horrors of Japanese concentration camps in Dutch Indonesia. After his mother’s death when he was 41, he plunged back into his childhood memories in a kaleidoscope of time and space, shifting continually from loss to hate and from pain to love. Giving it voice offers comforting balm to a shattered life.

His voice slightly amplified, Dirk Roofthooft portrays even the slightest nuances of intimacy. Magnified by live video projection, his distorted image is a portal into the subconscious, shedding light within. Adapting the novel for the stage by using the language of new media with rare intelligence, Guy Cassiers takes the spectator on a journey deep into the psyche and human suffering.
