Together since 2000, pianist Kenny Werner’s trio – featuring bassist Johannes Weidenmueller and drummer Ari Hoenig – took an eight-year recording hiatus, but 2015 finds them back on the road and planning to release a new album. A native of Brooklyn, Werner is one of the most respected musicians, composers and music educators of his generation. His 1996 masterwork, Effortless Mastery: Liberating the Master Musician Within, is widely viewed as a groundbreaking guide to improvisation, composition and performance. In 2010, Werner received a Guggenheim Fellowship for another major work, No Beginning, No End, which explores tragedy, loss, death and transition. A native of Heidelberg, Germany, Johannes Weidenmueller has also worked with Wynton Marsalis, Joe Lovano, John Abercrombie and Hank Jones. Philadelphia native Ari Hoenig has been a mainstay on the New York City jazz scene since the mid-‘90s, where he has worked with artists who include Chris Potter, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Joshua Redman.
