Yuyang Xie

Yuyang Xie, 17, started to play piano when he was four years old and has been taking lessons at the Conservatoire de Musique de Gatineau since 2008 with professor Marlene Finn. He has participated in many music competitions, both at the regional and national level, such as the Kiwanis Music Festival and the Canadian Music Competition, winning prizes and scholarships. In December of 2015, Yuyang performed the complete Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 2 as the soloist with the orchestra of the Conservatoire de Musique de Gatineau.

 

Yuyang is part of a piano trio, Trio Neutrino, with Stuart Matthews, violinist, and Daniel Wade, cellist. They have been playing together since 2013, and have since won 2nd place at the provincial level of the Kiwanis Music Festival in 2015 and 1st place of the Canadian Music Competition in 2016.

 

Furthermore, Yuyang has participated in masterclasses given by Michel Fournier, Hughes Cloutier, Richard Raymond, Mikhail Rudy, Roman Borys, and will have an opportunity to play for Angela Hewitt in March 2017.

 

Yuyang is currently a grade 12 student at Colonel By Secondary School.
