  Playwright Peace Akintade

  Peace Akintade is an African Canadian Interdisciplinary Poet, Public-Speaker on Immigration and Refugee Rights, and Thespian residing in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. Currently attaining an Anthropology degree at UofS, Peace values the influence of storytelling when bridging cultural strife in foreign lands. Part of the Youth Speaker’s Bureau for the Office of the Treaty Commissioner. Recently one of the 21 Black Playwrights chosen for the Obsidian Theatre’s 21 Black Future Project. Her play Madness with Rocks can be found on CBCArts and CBCGem. Her poems focus on the impact of colonialization as a first-generation immigrant, and the liberation and strength of Black Joy. 

  Établie à Saskatoon, en Saskatchewan, Peace Akintade est une poète interdisciplinaire afro-canadienne, conférencière sur l’immigration et les droits des personnes réfugiées, et comédienne. Elle est actuellement étudiante au baccalauréat en anthropologie à l’Université de Saskatoon. Peace croit que les récits peuvent être d’une grande utilité pour apaiser les conflits culturels en terres étrangères. Elle fait partie du Bureau des jeunes conférenciers et conférencières (Youth Speaker’s Bureau) du Bureau du commissaire aux traités. Elle a récemment présenté une œuvre aux côtés de 20 autres dramaturges noir·e·s dans le cadre du projet 21 Black Future Project de l’Obsidian Theatre. Il est possible de voir sa pièce Madness with Rocks sur CBC Arts et CBC Gem. Ses poèmes portent sur l’impact de la colonisation sur la première génération d’immigrants, et sur la libération et la force que représente la Joie Noire.

  Cast Sasha Hayden

  Sasha Hayden is of Jamaican and Canadian descent. She’s committed and passionate about her craft, and believes representation matters. Sasha was born in Calgary, Alberta. Her studies started at Company of Rogues Actors’ Studio. Sasha is now based in Vancouver where she continues to take an array of classes. Currently, she trains online at The Imagined Life Studio in L.A. She’s had appearances on networks such as Netflix, Lifetime, Hallmark and more.  

  Sasha Hayden est d’origine jamaïcocanadienne. Son engagement dans son art n’a d’égal que sa passion pour celui-ci. Elle estime que la représentation de la diversité est importante. Sasha est née à Calgary, en Alberta. Elle a étudié à la Company of Rogues Actors’ Studio. Elle est maintenant établie à Vancouver, où elle continue à suivre une série de formations. Elle participe présentement à une formation en ligne offerte par The Imagined Life Studio, de Los Angeles. On a pu la voir notamment sur les réseaux Netflix, Lifetime et Hallmark.

  Cast Paul Smith

  Paul Smith is a Thursday-born performer, creator, and facilitator from Stittsville, ON., Treaty 27. A graduate of Dan School of Drama and Music at Queen’s University, he uses his intersectionalities to create non-hierarchical spaces for a new generation of artists. He explores how narratives that center marginalized bodies can be adapted into stories of reclamation, innovation, and protest. When not writing his autobiomyth Anansi v. God(s), or thinking about the symbiotic relationship between theatre and film, Paul is developing his art practice through the principles of Sankofa, and listening to Frank Ocean (on repeat). 

  Né un jeudi, l’interprète, créateur et animateur Paul Smith est établi à Stittsville, en Ontario, sur le territoire du Traité n˚ 27. Il est diplômé de l’École d’art dramatique et de musique Dan de l’Université Queen. Il tire profit de son intersectionnalité en créant des espaces non hiérarchiques destinés à une nouvelle génération d’artistes. Il explore la façon d’adapter les récits traitant de corps marginalisés en histoires portant sur la revendication, l’innovation et la protestation. Quand il n’est pas en train d’écrire son autobiomythe, Anansi v. God(s) ou de penser à la relation symbiotique entre le théâtre et le cinéma, Paul approfondit sa pratique artistique grâce au principe de Sankofa et à l’écoute (en boucle) de la Frank Ocean.

  Cast Natasha ‘’Courage’’ Bacchus

  I am Natasha “Courage” Bacchus, I am former 3 times Deaf Olympian Sprinter. Since 2019, I have participated as an actress for The Black Drum, The Two Natashas, 21 Black Futures, TV film Season 4 Netflix The Corner. I have participated as an art collaborator with numerous theatre and film productions in Canada as an interdisciplinary visual artist, art accessibility consultant, and activist for IBPOC Deaf art community and expanding IBPOC Deaf artists representation. 

  Natasha « Courage » Bacchus a participé à trois reprises aux Jeux olympiques des sourds comme sprinteuse. Depuis 2019, elle a joué dans The Black Drum, The Two Natashas, 21 Black Futures et dans la quatrième saison de la série télé The Corner, produite par Netflix. Elle a collaboré à de nombreuses productions théâtrales et cinématographiques au Canada en tant qu’artiste visuelle interdisciplinaire et experte en accessibilité artistique. Elle milite aussi pour la communauté artistique PANDC sourde et pour assurer une meilleure représentation des artistes PANDC sourd·e·s.

  Cast Isaac Cunningham

  

  Cast Isaac Cunningham

  Isaac Cunningham is an actor, born and raised in Manchester, England. From the age of 15, Isaac attended the Oldham Theatre Workshop and later went on to study Theatre and Performance at the University of Leeds. Since 2017, Isaac has been living and working in Toronto, strengthening his acting craft in classes for stage and screen, and has appeared in several short films and digital projects. He is currently in rehearsals for We Are Here, a play directed by Judith Thompson and will appear as a series regular in the upcoming Sloppy Jones show. 

  Le comédien Isaac Cunningham est né et a grandi à Manchester, en Angleterre. Dès l’âge de 15 ans, il a fréquenté le Oldham Theatre Workshop et a ensuite étudié le théâtre et l’interprétation à l’Université Leeds. Depuis 2017, Isaac vit et travaille à Toronto, perfectionnant sans cesse son travail d’interprétation dans le cadre de formations pour la scène et l’écran. On a d’ailleurs pu le voir dans plusieurs courts métrages et projets numériques. Il est actuellement en répétitions pour la pièce We Are Here, mise en scène par Judith Thompson, et interprétera un rôle important dans la série télé à venir Sloppy Jones.

  Cast Grégory Yves

  Grégory Yves is a performer whose passion for acting and music collide in the form of a 6’0 Haitian-Canadian. Originally from Ottawa, since leaving he’s spent time training both in the US and Canada to refine his skills and accrue new ones as he studied everything from voice to ballet. Since settling in Montreal, he’s also become a player in the local and national music scenes under his solo project NOVEMBER, in addition to recently earning his BFA in Acting from Concordia. As this new step begins, he hopes the world is as ready for him as he is for it. 

  Mélangez bien une passion pour le jeu et un autre pour la musique, et vous obtiendrez un comédien canadien d’origine haïtienne de six pieds répondant au nom de Grégory Yves. Originaire d’Ottawa, Grégory a suivi diverses formations au Canada et aux États-Unis, allant de la voix au ballet, pour perfectionner ses habiletés et en acquérir de nouvelles. Depuis qu’il habite Montréal, il s’est aussi produit comme chanteur sur les scènes locales et nationales, grâce à son projet solo NOVEMBER, en plus d’avoir récemment obtenu un baccalauréat en beaux-arts (art dramatique) de l’Université Concordia. À l’aube de ce nouveau projet, il est prêt à conquérir le monde. Celui-ci n’a qu’à bien se tenir!

  Cast Christopher Parker

  Christopher Parker received his Master of Music in Literature & Performance at Western University. He made his professional debut at Centaur Theatre in the Canadian premiere of Choir Boy, by Oscar-winning writer Tarell Alvin McCraney, which won Best PACT Production at the 2019 Montreal English Theatre Awards. Since then, he has participated in the workshopping of new productions with Obsidian Theatre, Tapestry Opera, and The Musical Stage Company. Christopher made his Toronto stage debut in the critically acclaimed and 2020 Dora Mavor Moore Outstanding New Play nominee The Negroes are Congregating with Piece of Mine Arts and Theatre Passé Muraille. 

  Christopher Parker a obtenu une maîtrise en musique (littérature et interprétation) de l’Université Western. Il a fait ses débuts comme comédien professionnel au Théâtre Centaur dans la première canadienne de la pièce Choir Boy, de l’auteur oscarisé Tarell Alvin McCraney, lauréate du prix de la meilleure production PACT  (Professional Association of Canadian Theatres) aux Prix du théâtre anglophone de Montréal 2019. Depuis, il a participé à des ateliers de création de nouvelles productions avec le Obsidian Theatre, le Tapestry Opera et The Musical Stage Company. Christopher s’est produit pour la première fois sur la scène torontoise dans The Negroes are Congregating, pièce encensée par la critique et finaliste au prix Dora Mavor Moore de la meilleure nouvelle pièce en 2020 – une production de Piece of Mine Arts et du Théatre Passe Muraille.

  Born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe Bongani Musa is a theatre artist who now lives in Saskatchewan. He graduated from the University of Regina with a BA in theatre and performance. He has acting credits in both theatre and film. His acting credits include The other side of the river, Mine to have, The Story (radio play), 4our (devised), Secrets From the Borne Settee (devised), Catherine Banks’ Bone Cage, Antigone, Terry Pratchett’s Mort, and The Caring Only Cry at Night (film), Mercy (film).

  Cast Audrey Thibault

  Fascinated by performing arts, Audrey has always had a passion for acting. She decided to move to New York City to pursue this passion. Graduated from an intensive two-year acting conservatory in The Big Apple, she has completed other programs including a 6-month dance program at the Broadway Dance Center. She also was mentored by Anna Garduno for voice-over work. Having returned to Canada, she is ready to pursue her career here and internationally.  

  Fascinée par les arts du spectacle, Audrey Thibault s’est toujours passionnée pour l’interprétation et a choisi de déménager à New York pour vivre cette passion. Diplômée d’un programme intensif de deux ans d’un conservatoire d’art dramatique de la Grosse Pomme, elle a aussi suivi, entre autres, une formation de six mois au Broadway Dance Center. Anna Garduno a été sa mentore en voix hors champ. Maintenant de retour au Canada, elle est fin prête à poursuivre sa carrière ici et ailleurs dans le monde.

  Alyssa Angelucci-Wall is a half-Haitian Montreal-born artist/performer and Concordia University graduate, holding a BFA in Theatre with a Specialization in Theatre Performance. She has always been passionate about all facets of theatre. Some of her more impactful past roles have been Rhonda in Lion in the Streets, taking part in the Rose Festival as Lightning in The Last Place You’ll Look, and her recent work with Geordie Theatre’s 2PlayTour as Stella in Celestial Bodies. She strives to take part in art with strong cultural integrity that is accessible, embracing, addresses challenging subjects and focuses on fostering connection. 

  Artiste et interprète mi-haïtienne née à Montréal, Alyssa Angelucci-Wall est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en beaux-arts, interprétation théâtrale, de l’Université Concordia. Elle est passionnée par toutes les facettes du théâtre.   Mariah Inger has been an actress for over 30 years, working in all mediums, from Film/TV, Video Games to Theatre. She has had the chance to work with some of the best in business, both in front and behind the camera. After 12 years of coaching actors both established and emerging, helping them achieve their career goals-She focused on advancing her own career goals, which include Script Consulting on new works, Directing, Producing, Mentoring, and creating new content…Another focus is helping to move forward diversity and inclusion in the industry as a whole- She has been named both ACTRA Montreal and National’s Chair of DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging), where she hopes to help the mandate of Diversity and Inclusion further.

  Actrice depuis 30 ans, Mariah Inger multiplie les collaborations au théâtre, au cinéma, à la télévision et à la radio, et se prête également à la capture de mouvement pour les jeux vidéo. Au cours de sa carrière, elle a travaillé avec quelques-unes des plus grandes figures du monde artistique. Elle est la vice-présidente de Black Wealth Media, une entreprise qu’elle a cofondée il y a quatre ans et qui se spécialise dans la production de contenu culturel africain pour le cinéma, la télévision et le Web. Metteure en scène et mentore auprès d’artistes en devenir marginalisé·e·s, elle siège au sein de plusieurs conseils d’administration dans l’optique d’améliorer les politiques sur la diversité et l’inclusion. Maman solo d’un fils de 26 ans, elle souhaite mettre à profit ses connaissances et expériences dans le cadre du programme de mentorat artistique du BTW.

  Warona Setshwaelo is a storyteller, mother and activist. Since moving to Tiohtià:ke 15 years ago, Warona has immersed herself in the theatre community, both locally and nationally. Apart from performing with several theatre companies in Montreal, such as Teesri Duniya, Repercussion Theatre, Geordie Theatre, Black Theatre Workshop, The Segal Centre, Centaur Theatre and Scapegoat Carnivale. She has performed in Toronto at the Tarragon Theatre as well as at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Company in Winnipeg and the Belfry in Victoria. Selected film, TV and video credits include White House Down, Quantico, On the Basis of Sex, Assassin's Creed Origins, The Division, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

  Montréalaise de cœur depuis une dizaine d’années, Warona Setshwaelo est une actrice et une enseignante diplômée du programme Virginia Tech Theatre Arts. Elle s’est produite sur scène avec de nombreuses compagnies théâtrales montréalaises, y compris le Théâtre Teesri Duniya, le Black Theatre Workshop, l’Imago Theatre, le Théâtre Teesri Duniya, le Théâtre Geordie, le Centre Segal et le théâtre Tableau D’Hôte. Elle est également la cofondatrice du Théâtre Metachroma. Elle est également la cofondatrice du Théâtre Metachroma. Outre son implication à l’ancien programme d’emploi des jeunes du Black Theatre Worshop, elle a été la co-coordonnatrice d’Artista, un programme de mentorat théâtral pour les jeunes femmes.   Set and Costume Designer Courtney Moses Orbin

  I am a set designer specializing in themes of societal decay and most recently reimagining traditional theatre works told from the perspective of charac-ters of color. I am a cis-gender Black woman of American heritage. I started my career as a costume design assistant for music videos and continued learning as an art department assistant on both film and television. I am an industry professional with dual degrees in both Film Production (Brooklyn College) and most recently, Scenography (Concordia University). A native from Brooklyn, New York; now residing in Montréal I worked for companies such as CBS, HGTV, and Paramount.  I enjoy designing for theatre because of its collaborative nature and intimate symbiotic relationship with community and my peers.  My journey led me to finding a family with Black Theatre Workshop and look forward to continuing that important relationship as the set designer for Black Theatre Workshop's "2022 AMP Ensemble", which premieres at the NAC in June of 2022. My pursuit in design is to offer an alternative to the European saturated constructs by elevating the Black gaze. Collaboration, sustainability, and genera-tive cultural reference are integral to my creative process. I relish the chance to support stories with a new and innovative visual representation. It is my core belief that we must continue to do the vital work of utilizing the arts as substantial catalysts for change.

  Scénographe, Courtney Moses Orbin s’intéresse aux œuvres qui traitent du déclin de notre société et qui revisitent les classiques du point de vue des personnes de couleur. Femme noire cisgenre d’ascendance américaine, elle commence sa carrière comme assistante à la conception de costumes pour des vidéoclips, avant de parfaire ses connaissances au cinéma et à la télévision. Professionnelle chevronnée, elle est titulaire d’un diplôme en production cinématographique du Brooklyn College, et a obtenu par la suite un diplôme en scénographie de l’Université Concordia. Native de Brooklyn, New York, elle réside maintenant à Montréal où elle a notamment travaillé pour CBS, HGTV et Paramount. Animée par le travail d’équipe, elle cherche dans le travail de scénographie cette relation fusionnelle qui se crée entre les communautés et les pairs. En cours de carrière, son chemin croise celui du Black Theatre Workshop et s’ensuit une fructueuse collaboration comme scénographe de l’édition 2022 du programme de mentorat artistique du BTW, dont la représentation est donnée au CNA en juin 2022. Sa démarche artistique est en continuité avec ses engagements : sortir des sentiers battus pour monter des pièces du point de vue des personnes noires. Elle privilégie la collaboration, la durabilité et les références culturelles créatives dans son travail et entend bien faire résonner des récits visuellement audacieux et novateurs. Elle est convaincue qu’il est plus que nécessaire de miser sur le pouvoir des arts pour opérer des changements importants.

  Sound Designer Justin Johnson

  Justin Johnson or “Just J.” is a Montreal based performer of Jamaican and Canadian descent. You can catch him on CBC Gem’s new television show “Zoomizoom”. A bilingual children’s show developed around teaching younger audiences using both English and French. A regular on the Quebec theatre scene and a frequent collaborator with Black Theatre Workshop's many programs, readings, workshops and shows, Justin is excited to embark on this hip hop infused journey that deals with subject matter that is very personal and dear to his heart. At an early age, he lost his father to the tragedy that is police brutality. The lost opportunity of knowing his father has impacted his creative process and approach to life, but he has worked to turn pain into positivity as he uses his art as a tool to heal, explore and spread joy. Having studied Theatre at Dawson College in Montreal, and working closely with Montreal’s illustrious Black Theatre Workshop through their Artist Mentorship program, Justin fell in love with the process of charming audiences and making people smile. With a background in acting, directing, singing and dancing, multi-disciplinary powerhouse Just J. is also venturing  into a journey of music making as a Hip Hop artist.

  Montréalais d’origine jamaïcocanadienne, Justin Johnson ou « Just J. » est l’un des interprètes de Zoomizoom, la nouvelle émission éducative bilingue de CBC Gem qui vise à enseigner aux jeunes enfants le français et l’anglais. Habitué de la scène théâtrale québécoise, il collabore régulièrement avec le Black Theatre Workshop dans le cadre de programmes, lectures, ateliers et spectacles. Il s’apprête à participer à un projet imprégné de hip-hop dont le thème, très personnel, lui tient particulièrement à cœur. Orphelin de père très jeune, victime de la brutalité policière, il sait que l’absence de la figure paternelle pèse lourd da sa vie et dans son processus créatif. Il décide d’apprivoiser sa souffrance et d’utiliser les arts pour guérir, explorer et répandre la joie. Après des études de théâtre au Collège Dawson à Montréal, il intègre le programme de mentorat artistique du célèbre Black Theatre Workshop qui lui donne le virus de la scène et l’envie de faire sourire le public. Tout à tour interprète, metteur en scène, chanteur et danseur, Just J. se prépare à ajouter une corde à son arc et à devenir artiste de hip-hop.

  Stage Manager Yutong Ngui

  Yutong is a fourth-year theatre student at the University of Ottawa. She is thrilled to be Stage Manager for the AMP’s annual showcase. She will be graduating in June and wants to continue pursuing a career in stage management, designing, and writing. She believes that the optimum temperature for NAC’s studio is deg F, and her dream is to make bus 14 in Ottawa come on time every day (if possible).

  Étudiante en théâtre en quatrième année à l’Université d’Ottawa, Yutong Ngui est la régisseuse de la présentation annuelle du programme de mentorat artistique. À la fin de ses études en juin, elle compte poursuivre une carrière en régie, scénographie et dramaturgie. Elle est convaincue que la température optimale du studio du CNA s’exprime en degrés Fahrenheit, et elle rêve que l’autobus de la ligne 14 à Ottawa arrive à l’heure tous les jours (si possible).
