Part high-energy musical and part darkly funny folktale, Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story stars genre-bending sensation Ben Caplan, one of Canada’s most riveting and compelling performers. Written by Ottawa’s own Hannah Moscovitch, this klezmer music-theatre hybrid is inspired by the true story of two Jewish Romanian refugees who immigrated to Canada in 1908.

Shifting seamlessly between heartbreak and joy, Old Stock is about losing everything and finding the courage to make a new start.

Seating

There are no reserved seats for NAC student matinee performances.

Instead of tickets you will receive a letter of admission and groups will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis at the performance.

The letter of admission will be issued upon receipt of full payment.

Playwright Hannah Moscovitch

Playwright Hannah Moscovitch

Hannah Moscovitch is an acclaimed Canadian playwright and TV writer whose work for the stage has been widely produced across Canada and internationally. She has won numerous accolades for her playwriting, including the prestigious Windham-Campbell Prize and the Governor General’s Award. Past writing for the stage includes: East of Berlin, This is War, Bunny, Sexual Misconduct of the Middles Classes, and Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story (co-created with Ben Caplan and Christian Barry). In television, Hannah is the Co-Creator, Executive Producer and Head Writer of Little Bird for Bell Media and Rezolution alongside Jennifer Podemski. Most recently, Hannah was Co-Executive Producer on Interview With The Vampire for AMC with Gran Via and Dwight Street Book Club producing.

Hannah Moscovitch est une célèbre dramaturge et autrice de télévision canadienne, dont les œuvres scéniques ont été largement produites au Canada et à l’international. Assistant Director Laura Vingoe-Cram

Laura is a Co-Artistic Director of Keep Good Theatre Company. Her recent directing credits include, Love and Information (The Fountain School of Performing Arts), The Children ( Keep Good Theatre Company), Miss N Me (Eastern Front Theatre), Interactions with Art (Halifax Theatre for Young People), Time of Trouble (Opera Nova Scotia), and Constellations (Keep Good Theatre Company). She recently completed a year at the Stratford Festival working as an Assistant Director under Nigel Shawn Williams and as a member of the Michael Langham Workshop for Classical Direction. In 2015 she graduated from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow with a masters in direction.

Laura est codirectrice artistique de Keep Good Theatre Company. Elle a récemment mis en scène Love and Information (The Fountain School of Performing Arts), The Children (Keep Good Theatre Company), Miss N Me (Eastern Front Theatre), Interactions with Art (Halifax Theatre for Young People), Time of Trouble (Opera Nova Scotia) et Constellations (Keep Good Theatre Company).
