New! Join us early for two pre-concert recitals, starting at 7 pm in the NAC’s new Peter A. Herrndorf Place featuring some of Ottawa’s young string players.

The NAC Orchestra welcomes beloved Conductor Emeritus Pinchas Zukerman back to the podium to play and conduct in an evening of music that celebrates strings – a perfect match for classical music novices and aficionados alike. His long and devoted history with each of these works makes this a quintessentially Pinchas program.

Poignant, passionate, and filled with sweet sadness, Chausson’s Poème rises and falls like the waves, ebbing and flowing into bright corners and dark, secret places. The Poème is perfectly fulfilled in the capable hands of internationally renowned violinist Viviane Hagner, who was first showcased at the NAC as a young artist and student of Pinchas Zukerman, well over a decade ago.

In a special treat for lovers of classical music, Zukerman takes up the viola to play Mozart’s delightful Sinfonia Concertante, with Hagner on violin. You’ll be swept away by this bright, joyous work full of perfect harmonies.

Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations are character studies – sometimes humorous, but always loving – dedicated to the 14 “friends pictured within.” Honouring his closest circle of acquaintances and each bearing the initials or nickname of the friend Elgar wished to honour, the Enigma Variations are a tender tribute to those he loved.
