Yann McHaffie is a 5th year student in the BMus/BSc double degree program at the university of Ottawa, studying piano with Frédéric Lacroix. During his time at uOttawa, Yann has played in masterclasses with Stéphane Lemelin and Charles Richard-Hamelin and performed at the memorial ceremony for the honorable Monique Bégin at Tabaret Hall. He is currently working as a student conductor for the uOttawa Calixa-Lavallée ensemble and the Chorale du Conservatoire de Gatineau, with hopes of pursuing graduate studies in choral conducting.
Yann also enjoys working as a collaborative pianist, piano teacher, high school tutor, and bartender; he is currently a teaching assistant for the aural skills sector at the uOttawa School of Music. His solo album "Je suis calme", featuring a collection of calm classical favourites, was launched on streaming platforms in September 2023. Yann's upcoming graduating recital in April 2025 will feature works by Bach, Haydn, Chopin, and Rzewski, as well as Liszt's Dante Sonata.
Frédéric Lacroix has performed in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia as a soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative pianist. As such, he has performed with many important musicians, including Branford Marsalis, Johannes Moser, Kathleen Battle, Alexander Rudin, and some of Canada’s most noted musicians. He has made regular radio appearances on CBC and Radio-Canada in Canada as well as NPR in the U.S. Frédéric is also active as a composer, having composed for Ottawa Chamberfest, the Society of American Music, the Canadian University Music Society, the Chœur Classique de l’Outaouais, and other noted Canadian musicians.
