  A passionate communicator, Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser brings clarity and meaning to the concert hall, fostering deep connections between audiences and performers. He is concurrently the Principal Youth Conductor and Creative Partner of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Principal Education Conductor and Community Ambassador of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Artist in Residence and Community Ambassador of Symphony Nova Scotia, and Resident Conductor of Engagement and Education of the San Francisco Symphony. 

  Daniel served as Assistant Conductor of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and Associate Conductor of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and was Cover Conductor with the Washington National Opera in 2020. 

  Daniel is the host of Canadian Broadcasting Company’s (CBC’s) nationally broadcast weekly radio show Centrestage. 

  He was also the subject of an award-winning, full-length CBC documentary called Disruptor Conductor, focussing on his concerts for neurodiverse, prison, African diaspora, and LGBTQ2S+ populations. 

  Daniel earned his Bachelor degrees in Music Performance and Education from the University of Calgary, and his Master of Philosophy in Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England.

  Il a œuvré comme chef d’orchestre adjoint de l’Orchestre symphonique de Kitchener-Waterloo et chef d’orchestre associé de l’Orchestre symphonique de Thunder Bay. Il s’est produit avec l’Orchestre symphonique de Vancouver, l’Orchestre symphonique d’Edmonton, l’Orchestre philharmonique de Calgary, et a été chef d’orchestre substitut avec le Washington National Opera en 2020. 

  Il anime l’émission de radio hebdomadaire Centrestage de la Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), diffusée à l’échelle nationale. 

  Il a également fait l’objet d’un documentaire primé de la CBC intitulé Disruptor Conductor, portant sur ses concerts destinés aux populations neuroatypiques, aux détenus, à la diaspora africaine et aux membres des communautés 2SLGBTQ+. 

  Détenteur de baccalauréats en Musique (interprétation) et en Éducation de l’Université de Calgary, il a obtenu sa maîtrise en Philosophie (interprétation musicale) du Royal Northern College of Music de Manchester, en Angleterre.

  Since its debut in 1969, the National Arts Centre (NAC) Orchestra has been praised for the passion and clarity of its performances, its visionary educational programs, and its prominent role in nurturing Canadian creativity. Under the leadership of Music Director Alexander Shelley, the NAC Orchestra reflects the fabric and values of Canada, reaching and representing the diverse communities we live in with daring programming, powerful storytelling, inspiring artistry, and innovative partnerships.

  Alexander Shelley began his tenure as Music Director in 2015, following Pinchas Zukerman’s 16 seasons at the helm. Principal Associate Conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and former Chief Conductor of the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra (2009–2017), he has been in demand around the world, conducting the Rotterdam Philharmonic, DSO Berlin, Leipzig Gewandhaus, and Stockholm Philharmonic, among others, and maintains a regular relationship with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie and the German National Youth Orchestra.

  Each season, the NAC Orchestra features world-class artists such as the newly appointed Artist-in-Residence James Ehnes, Angela Hewitt, Joshua Bell, Xian Zhang, Gabriela Montero, Stewart Goodyear, Jan Lisiecki, and Principal Guest Conductor John Storgårds. As one of the most accessible, inclusive, and collaborative orchestras in the world, the NAC Orchestra uses music as a universal language to communicate the deepest of human emotions and connect people through shared experiences.

  Depuis sa création en 1969, l’Orchestre du Centre national des Arts (CNA) reçoit des éloges pour la passion et la clarté de ses interprétations, pour ses programmes éducatifs novateurs et pour son apport à l’expression de la créativité canadienne.   Aliénor (Allie) Rougeot is a climate justice activist, and a program manager at Environmental Defence Canada where she advocates for a just transition for workers and communities. She has been a human rights advocate since a very young age, with a focus on climate justice since high school. She co-founded the group Fridays for Future Toronto and has led numerous student climate strikes in that role. She is a public speaker and workshop facilitator, using these opportunities to raise awareness on the urgency of the climate crisis, discuss the solutions that are available to us as a society and empower others to join the fight for climate justice. She has been recognized by The Starfish in the 25 under 25 Environmentalists, and by Corporate Knights in their 30 Under 30 Sustainability Leaders. 

  Aliénor (Allie) Rougeot est une militante pour la justice climatique et est Responsable de Programmes à Environmental Defence Canada, où elle milite pour une transition juste pour les travailleurs et les communautés. Elle défend les droits humains depuis son plus jeune âge, avec un accent sur la justice climatique depuis le lycée. Elle a cofondé le groupe Fridays for Future Toronto et a dirigé de nombreuses grèves étudiantes pour le climat dans ce rôle. Elle est aussi conférencière et animatrice d'ateliers, via lesquels elle sensibilise à l'urgence de la crise climatique, discute des solutions qui s'offrent à nous en tant que société et donne aux autres les moyens de se joindre à la lutte pour la justice climatique.   Juno-nominated Cris Derksen is an Internationally respected Indigenous Cellist and Composer. In a world where almost everything—people, music, cultures—gets labelled and slotted into simple categories, Cris Derksen represents a challenge. Originally from Northern Alberta, she comes from a line of chiefs from NorthTall Cree Reserve on her father’s side and a line of strong Mennonite homesteaders on her mother’s. Derksen braids the traditional and contemporary, weaving her classical background and Indigenous ancestry with new school electronics to create genre-defying music.

  As composer Derksen has a foot in many worlds, 2019 compositions include Maada’ookii Songlines – a Mass Choral piece for 250 singers Commissioned by Luminato Festival. Rebellion—a short symphony commissioned by the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. Iron Peggy – a Theatre piece commissioned by the Vancouver Children’s Festival. A new performance art piece commissioned by the National Art Gallery of Canada, Ikumagiialit. Her 2018 works include the DORA Award for Best Sound Design for Theatre 2018; Kiinalik: these sharp tools, TIFF Premier Biidaaban (the dawn comes) Short Animation Film by Amanda Strong, Ka:hawai Dance Company production of BloodTides, Kamloopa Theatre production, 2018 Banff Centre for the Arts String Quartet Residency White Mans Cattle and Wood Quintet International 5 bucks per head.

  As a performer, Derksen performs nationally and internationally solo and with some of Canada’s finest, including Tanya Tagaq, Buffy Sainte Marie, Naomi Klein, and Leanne Simpson, to name a few. Recent destinations include Hong Kong, Australia, Mongolia, Sweden, and a whole lot of Canada—the place Derksen refers to as home.

  Finaliste aux prix JUNO, Cris Derksen est une violoncelliste et compositrice autochtone dont le talent brille à l’international. Dans un monde qui se plait à mettre des étiquettes à presque tout – aux gens, à la musique et aux cultures – Cris Derksen fait figure d’électron libre. Dans son arbre généalogique, on retrouve des chefs de la réserve crie de North Tall du côté paternel et de robustes homesteaders mennonites, du côté maternel. Entre traditionnel et contemporaine, cette native du nord de l’Alberta puise dans sa formation classique, ses racines autochtones et l’électronique pour composer une musique radicalement inclassable.

  Dans ses compositions, Cris Derksen navigue entre les univers musicaux, elle qui n’aime pas se cantonner dans un seul style.   Marie Bégin, violin

  Canadian violinist Marie Bégin has performed in recitals in Canada, the United States, The United Kingdom, Europe, and China. She was soloist with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, Les Violons du Roy, and the Agora Symphony Orchestra, among others. She is frequently invited to perform in several renowned ensembles, notably, as assistant concertmaster of the Hulencourt Soloist Chamber Orchestra for concerts in Milan, Brussels, and Spain. A passionate chamber player, she collaborates with renowned artists such as Charles Richard-Hamelin and Andrew Wan. At age 26, she was appointed first violin of the Saguenay Quartet (Alcan) as well as concertmaster of the Orchestre symphonique du Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean. She also forms a permanent duo with pianist Samuel Blanchette-Gagnon, a group that has been heard at the Riviera Music Academy in Switzerland, among others. The duo is currently working on a recording of 20th century works for violin and piano.

  A graduate of the Conservatoire de musique de Québec, Marie Bégin studied with Andrée Azar, Jean Angers, and Darren Lowe. She then pursued her studies in Europe with Zakhar Bron, at his academy in Switzerland, but also at the Menuhin Academy, Kronberg Academy, and Mozarteum University.

  Marie Bégin has been selected in several major international competitions, including the Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poland and the Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition. She has won several prizes, including the grand prize at the Festival-Concours Pierre-de-Saurel and the international Rotary Douja d'Or prize awarded by Switzerland, France, Germany, and Italy. She is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. She plays on a J.B. Vuillaume violin (1850) graciously loaned by Canimex Inc.

  La violoniste canadienne Marie Bégin a donné des récitals au Canada, aux États-Unis, au Royaume-Uni, en Europe et en Chine. Elle a été soliste auprès de l’Orchestre de chambre de Stuttgart, l’Orchestre symphonique de Québec, les Violons du Roy et l’Orchestre de l’Agora, entre autres. Elle est fréquemment invitée à se produire avec des ensembles réputés, notamment l’Orchestre de chambre des solistes d’Hulencourt pour des concerts à Milan et Bruxelles ainsi qu’en Espagne (assistante violon solo). Chambriste passionnée, elle collabore avec des artistes de renom tels Charles Richard-Hamelin et Andrew Wan. À 26 ans, elle a obtenu le poste de premier violon du Quatuor Saguenay (Alcan) et celui de violon solo de l’Orchestre symphonique du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. Le duo travaille actuellement à la réalisation d’un album d’œuvres du XXe siècle pour violon et piano.

Elle a ensuite poursuivi sa formation en Europe, à l’académie de Zakhar Bron et à l’Académie Menuhin (Suisse), mais aussi à l’Académie Kronberg (Allemagne), et à l’Université du Mozarteum (Autriche).

  Bégin a été sélectionnée pour plusieurs grands concours internationaux, notamment le Concours international de violon Wieniawski (Pologne) et le Concours international de violon Isaac-Stern (Shanghai).   The Calixa-Lavallée Ensemble is the chamber choir of the School of Music of the University of Ottawa. Participation in this ensemble, which is conducted by Laurence Ewashko, allows singers to expand their knowledge in many ways: by performing a wide variety of vocal styles and repertoire; by developing a sense of blend; and by improving their sight-reading, linguistic and vocal/choral ensemble skills. The Calixa-Lavallée Choir performs regularly throughout the school year in a variety of concerts, both at the university and within the community at large.

  Le Chœur Calixa-Lavallée est l'ensemble choral de marque du École de musique de l'Université d'Ottawa. La participation à cet ensemble, sous la direction de Laurence Ewashko, permet aux choristes d'élargir leurs connaissances de plusieurs façons : en interprétant un large répertoire de style varié, en aiguisant le sens de l'harmonisation, et en améliorant leur lecture à vue, leur connaissance des langues et des techniques vocales et chorales. Le Chœur Calixa-Lavallée se produit régulièrement pendant l'année scolaire, à la fois à l'Université et dans la région d'Ottawa.

  Former conductor of the Vienna Boys’ Choir and Cantata Singers of Ottawa, Laurence Ewashko celebrates his 32nd season of choral activity in the National Capital Region. As a choral clinician, vocal coach and adjudicator, he makes a significant contribution to the quality and appreciation of vocal music in Canada and abroad. Laurence has prepared choruses for many prestigious conductors, and he regularly does so at the National Arts Centre.

  A Full Professor of Choral Studies at the University of Ottawa, he conducts the School of Music’s two choirs. Laurence is a recipient of the prestigious Leslie Bell Prize for Choral Conducting and numerous awards from the Canada Council of the Arts.

  Ancien chef de chœur des Petits chanteurs de Vienne et des Cantata Singers of Ottawa, Laurence Ewashko célèbre sa 32^e saison d’activités chorales dans la région de la capitale nationale. En tant qu’animateur d’ateliers choraux, répétiteur et membre de jurys, il contribue grandement à faire connaître et aimer une musique vocale de qualité au Canada et ailleurs. Laurence a préparé des chœurs pour bon nombre de grands chefs d’orchestre, ce qu’il fait aussi régulièrement au Centre national des Arts.

  Professeur titulaire d’études chorales à l’Université d’Ottawa, il dirige les deux chœurs de l’École de musique. Laurence a reçu le prestigieux prix Leslie Bell pour chefs de chœur et de nombreuses récompenses du Conseil des arts du Canada.
