  Oboe and English horn Anna Petersen

  Anna Petersen joined the NAC Orchestra as Second Oboe and English Horn in 2013. She has performed orchestral and chamber concerts throughout Canada and the United States, and internationally in China, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and throughout Europe.

  Prior to joining the NAC Orchestra, she held positions as Principal Oboe of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra and as a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. She has enjoyed guest appearances as Principal Oboe with the Pittsburgh, Detroit, Vancouver, and Wichita Symphony Orchestras, The Florida Orchestra, the Lake Placid Sinfonietta, and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom she made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2013. She has also recently performed with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in Auckland, New Zealand.

  In addition to her orchestral career, Anna is an active soloist and chamber musician. She has been a soloist with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Symphoria, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra, the Lake Placid Sinfonietta, and the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, and has performed as a finalist in the Coleman Chamber Music Competition in Pasadena, California. Anna has been a featured performer at Ottawa Chamberfest, a fellow at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, a participant at the Masterclass Program at the Banff Centre for the Arts, and a performer at the Skaneateles and Bravo! Vail Valley Music festivals.

  Also an experienced teacher, Anna is currently on faculty at the University of Ottawa and previously was the Adjunct Professor of Oboe at Syracuse University’s Setnor School of Music and SUNY Geneseo. She was a guest member of the Prairie Winds at Madeline Island Chamber Music in 2018, and during the summers of 2012 and 2015 she was a coach at the Bennington Chamber Music Conference in Bennington, Vermont.

  Anna earned her Bachelor of Music Degree and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. Her primary teachers include Richard Killmer and Suzanne Geoffrey.

  In addition to her musical life, Anna is also an internationally certified yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance, having completed 300 hours of training in Bali, Indonesia.

  Anna Petersen s’est jointe à l’Orchestre du Centre national des Arts comme deuxième hautbois et cor anglais en 2013. Elle s’est produite dans des concerts symphoniques et de musique de chambre partout au Canada et aux États-Unis ainsi qu’en Chine, à Hong Kong, en Nouvelle-Zélande et aux quatre coins de l’Europe.

  Petersen a précédemment été hautbois solo de l’Orchestre symphonique de Syracuse et membre de l’Orchestre philharmonique de Rochester.   En plus de sa carrière de musicienne d’orchestre, Anna Petersen est une soliste et chambriste très active. Elle s’est produite comme soliste avec les orchestres symphoniques de Syracuse et Milwaukee, l’ensemble Symphoria, l’orchestre de chambre Thirteen Strings, le Lake Placid Sinfonietta et l’Orchestre symphonique des jeunes de Milwaukee. On a pu la voir sur la scène du Concours de musique de chambre Coleman (Pasadena, Californie) à titre de finaliste. Elle a également a été artiste invitée avec le Ottawa Chamberfest et artiste affiliée au festival de musique de chambre de Norfolk. Elle a participé au programme de classes de maître du Centre des arts de Banff, et s’est produite au festival de musique de Skaneateles ainsi qu’au festival Bravo! Vail Valley.

  Pédagogue d’expérience, Petersen est actuellement professeure à l’Université d’Ottawa. Auparavant, elle a enseigné le hautbois à l’École de musique Setnor de l’Université de Syracuse et au SUNY Geneseo. Elle a été l’invitée de Prairie Winds au Madeline Island Chamber Music en 2018, et a offert de l’encadrement aux personnes participantes au Chamber Music Conference de Bennington, au Vermont, de 2012 à 2015.

  Elle a obtenu un baccalauréat en musique et un certificat en interprétation de l’École de musique Eastman. Elle a principalement étudié auprès de Richard Killmer et de Suzanne Geoffrey.

  Musicienne accomplie, Anna Petersen est aussi instructrice de yoga : elle a obtenu une formation de 300 heures à Bali (Indonésie) menant à une certification internationale de la Yoga Alliance.

  Cello Julia MacLaine

  

  Cello Julia MacLaine

  Assistant Principal Cello of the National Arts Centre Orchestra since 2014, Julia MacLaine performs worldwide as a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician in music ranging from classical to contemporary and from “world” to her own arrangements and compositions.

  Most recently, she has performed with her string quartet Ironwood in Mahone Bay (NS), at the Indian River Festival (PEI), and at their own Classical Unbound Festival in Prince Edward County. The quartet has appeared at the Wolfgang Sessions and MFASA series in Ottawa, at Ritornello Festival (SK), and in Paris. Their programs combine classical warhorses (Beethoven, Ravel, Debussy) with very new music (works by Ana Sokolovic, Nicole Lizée, Bryce Dessner, Philip Glass, Esa‐Pekka Salonen), and occasionally veer off into their own arrangements of original songs and folk music.

  During the ten years she spent living in New York City, Julia collaborated frequently with composers, giving voice to new works for solo cello. Most notably, she has been a champion of Pedro Malpica’s Pachamama’s Catharsis. MacLaine could often be heard on all three stages at Carnegie Hall. As a member of Ensemble Connect (previously ACJW), she performed numerous chamber music concerts at Weill and Zankel Halls, notably as the soloist in Tan Dun’s concerto Elegy: Snow in June. She also played frequently in Stern Auditorium as a member of the Orchestra of St. Luke’s and as principal cellist for Osvaldo Golijov’s Pasion selun San Marcos. From 2005 to 2014, she was a member of the Brooklyn‐based chamber orchestra The Knights, with whom she performed the Schumann Cello Concerto in 2012 in Central Park and for live broadcast by WQXR. The Grammy‐nominated ensemble collaborates regularly with artists such as Gil Shaham, Renée Fleming, and Yo‐Yo Ma, and has recorded several albums for, among others, SONY Classical.

  An entrepreneurial musician, Julia co-founded the New York group The Ikarus Chamber Players, an ensemble that married classical chamber music with other art forms in their own concert series in auction houses, art galleries, and other unique venues. With her colleagues in the Academy (Carnegie and Juilliard‐led fellowship connected to Ensemble ACJW/Connect), she formed the chamber music collective Decoda to develop community chamber music residencies around the world. With Decoda, Julia has performed at the Mecklenberg‐Vorpommern Festival in Germany, in Abu Dhabi, at Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and across the United States. She has also appeared at the Lanaudière, Bic, Mostly Mozart, Tanglewood, and Ravinia Festivals.

  Julia has performed with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Les Violons du Roy, and her chamber music collaborators include Itzhak Perlman, Jackie Parker, Pinchas Zukerman, members of the Orion String Quartet, Ani and Ida Kavafian, Inon Barnatan, and Cynthia Phelps.

  Originally from Prince Edward Island, Julia studied with Antonio Lysy at McGill University (BMus), and with Timothy Eddy at the Mannes College of Music (Artist Diploma) and at The Juilliard School (MMus).

  Assistante violoncelle solo au sein de l’Orchestre du Centre national des Arts depuis 2014, Julia MacLaine se produit mondialement comme soliste, musicienne d’orchestre et de chambre pour des œuvres passant du classique au contemporain, et de la musique du monde à ses propres arrangements et compositions.

  Elle s’est récemment produite avec son quatuor à cordes Ironwood à Mahone Bay (N.-É.), au Indian River Festival (Î-P-É), et à leur propre festival Classical Unbound dans le comté de Prince Edward.   Horn Louis-Pierre Bergeron

  

  Horn Louis-Pierre Bergeron

  Since October 2017, Louis-Pierre Bergeron is the proud 4th horn of the National Arts Centre Orchestra.  Previously, he was 3rd horn with Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, 2nd horn with Orchestre Métropolitain, and solo horn with Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières.  He still collaborates frequently with Les Violons du Roy, in Québec City.  In Mars 2020, he will be soloist in Ferdinand Ries’ Concerto for two horns, with Louis-Philippe Marsolais and I Musici de Montréal.

  Louis-Pierre studied with John Zirbel at McGill University and at the Aspen Music Festival and School, and the natural horn with Teunis van der Zwart at the Amsterdam Conservatory.  An avid champion of the natural horn, he performed and recorded with prestigious early music ensembles, notably the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Tafelmusik and Europa Galante.

  Equally active in pop music, Louis-Pierre Bergeron founded in 2015 the Montreal Horn Stars, a brass quintet for which he is also arranger.  The group collaborates with artists such as Patrick Watson, Bernard Adamus, Louis-Jean Cormier and Klô Pelgag.  They performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival, at Francofolies de Montréal and at Festival d’été de Québec.

  Louis-Pierre gives educational concerts with his woodwind quintet Ayorama, and for senior residents of healthcare establishments with Moon Palace, the duo he forms with his partner, the NACO cellist Julia MacLaine. 

  As hobbies, Louis-Pierre practices hockey, cross-country skiing and cyclo-touring.  He collects music records and old instruments. 

  Depuis octobre 2017, Louis-Pierre Bergeron est le fier 4ème cor de l'Orchestre du Centre National des Arts.  Il était auparavant 3ème cor à l'Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, 2ème cor à l'Orchestre Métropolitain, et cor solo à l'Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières.   Il donne des concerts éducatifs dans les écoles primaires de la région avec son quintette à vents Ayorama, et pour les aînés dans les centres de soins de santé avec le duo Moon Palace qu’il a fondé avec sa conjointe, la violoncelliste de l’OCNA Julia MacLaine.

  Dans ses temps libres, Louis-Pierre pratique le hockey, le ski de fond et le cyclotourisme.  Il possède une belle collection de disques vinyles et d’instruments anciens.
