Born in Bolzano, Italy, Ivan Cavallari trained at the Teatro alla Scala Ballet School in Milan and received a scholarship to the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow. He danced with La Scala Theatre Ballet before joining the Stuttgart Ballet, where he became a soloist and then a principal dancer in 1991. He creates choreographies for some of the world’s biggest dance companies.
From 2007 to 2012, he was the Artistic Director of the West Australian Ballet and in 2013, was named Artistic Director of the Ballet de l’Opéra national du Rhin. He has been Les Grands Ballets’ Artistic Director since 2017.Read full NAC bio ›
Praised for the intensity and flair of his performances, the Canadian conductor Jean-Claude Picard is widely described as a communicative and engaging conductor by fellow artists, critics and audiences alike.
He has conducted the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in nearly 90 performances, both in the great symphonic and choral repertoire as well as in contemporary premières and youth programmes.
He has also conducted the City of Birmingham Symphony, the Zürich Tonhalle Orchestra, the Leipzig Symphony, the Manchester Camerata, four productions for Scottish Ballet, in addition to the symphony orchestras of Toronto, Montréal, Québec City, Victoria, Halifax, and Ottawa (NAC).
