Pre-concert music, 7 pm: Join us in Southam Hall before the main show for a recital of Brahm’s Sonata for Violin and Piano no. 3 in D minor performed by Kerson Leong (violin) and Philip Chiu (piano).

Stravinsky’s Firebird launched the composer to international fame, and music from the ballet continues to enchant audiences. An exotic scenario, vibrant orchestral colours, and harmonies from primitive to luminous make for a spectacular concert experience.

Music Director Designate Alexander Shelley is joined by Benjamin Grosvenor, whose “gifts are already distinctive: poetic, romantic, almost old-school.” ~ Times of London), performing Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto, a showcase for the pianist’s technical prowess and poetic lyricism.

This concert is made possible in part through the Friends of the NAC Orchestra Kilpatrick Fund.

* Friday concerts are available as part of the CAPP Bravo Series. However, concert times, repertoire and other details have been modified to suit our exciting Casual Fridays Series.

Post-concert talkback: Ask questions directly to conductors, soloists and other special guests. With Paul Wells.
