Artist-in Residence Ila Barker is joined by accomplished bassist, director, composer and producer, MJ Dandeneau.

MJ Dandeneau is a Michif/Anishinaabe woman born on Treaty 1 Territory from li Rivyavr Roj Michif Nation. Through her business, MJ Entertainment Canada Inc, she has worked and toured with various artists worldwide for the past 15 years. MJ’s extensive music career includes booking agent for Europe and Australia, Artistic & Musical Director, industry board member and funding assessor.

MJ’s key focus and passion are supporting and empowering indigenous artists in successfully navigating the national and international market. MJ has also had the opportunity to expand her musical reach by taking on roles as a Composer/Sound Design for musical theatres such as Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Manitoba Theatre for Young People, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Sarasvati Productions and Theatre and Cercle Molière.

Register to participate in this small-group online session to learn about how these artists make music and to share your questions and musical ideas. Priority registration to Indigenous youth aged 13 to 25. Other participants accepted if space is available.

This series is presented as part of the NAC Music Alive Program: Manitoba, in partnership with the sākihiwē festival, Music for Life, Indigenous Music Development Program at Manitoba Music and Canada Council for the arts.
