Azrieli Studio,1 Elgin Street,Ottawa,CanadaFounded and fronted by émigré Trinidadian songwriter Drew Gonsalves, Kobo Town’s music has been variously described as “an intoxicating blend of lilting calypsonian wit, dancehall reggae and trombone-heavy brass” (Guardian) and a “unique, transnational composite of rhythm, poetry and activist journalism.”(Exclaim!) From their home in Toronto, the JUNO-winning group has brought their distinct calypso-inspired sound to audiences across the world, from Port-of-Spain to Paris and from Montreal to Malaysia.
Born in Medellin, Colombia, and based in Montreal for the past decade, Ramon Chicharron expresses his love for his roots through his music. With his futuristic psycho-tropical grooves and tropical rhythms of cumbia and champeta, Ramon Chicharron will take you on a colorful and rhythmic travel. A nomadic soul, the multi-instrumentalist composed most of his second opus, "Merecumbé", alone in the Costa Rican jungle. The album was released in May 2018, and a few weeks later, Ramon Chicharron received the award for Diversity in Music by Montreal Council of the Arts. A new album is now in creation and will be released in the Fall 2019.
This show, originally scheduled for the Fourth Stage, has been moved to the Azrieli Studio.
