with Mal/Aimé
Flying Hórses is the project of composer-pianist Jade Bergeron. With an unapologetic air of whimsy, Flying Hórses combines piano, Wurlitzer, chimes, bells and cello to create otherworldly, instrumental soundscapes. Her debut album, Tölt, was recorded with Sigur Rós’ producer, Biggi Birgisson, at Sundlaugin Studio in Iceland. She has performed at Festival International de Jazz de Montreal, Iceland Airwaves, and was nominated for the 2018 Prism Prize, for Best Canadian Music Video, alongside Leonard Cohen, The Weeknd, Feist, and Grimes.
mal/aimé are a three-piece experimental-chamber trio from Ottawa. Effect-laden clarinet melismas blend with circular synth passages, hypnotic guitar lines and found samples. The resulting sound ebbs and flows between anxious and meditative passages that juxtapose comfort and affliction.
