Salon,1 Elgin Street,Ottawa,CanadaExperiencing Indigenous Works – Developing Critical Voices will take place on unceded Algonquin territory at the NAC’s Salon. The arrival of dozens of artists and community members for Canada Scene presents a perfect opportunity to gather and share conversations about current and future developments of Indigenous Theatre on Turtle Island.
The gathering will begin by introducing the Conversation Leaders’ connection to Indigenous Theatre. Smaller break-out groups will follow, each facilitated by a Conversation Leader, to create a working list of performance analysis tools that support the viewing, reception, and teaching of theatrical works. The working groups provide an opportunity to dig deeper into the questions and themes presented by the Conversation Leaders.
The first evening’s activities will culminate in the viewing of Corey Payette’s Children of God. Reconvening on Friday, June 16, the groups will discuss and articulate their reactions to the previous night’s performance with the hope of mobilizing more critical and thoughtful ways to experience, remember, and activate performance.
