Curriculum Connections

The play may be used in many ways to meet Ontario school curriculum requirements. Suggestions and teacher prompts:

Grade 11: Social Sciences and the Humanities Curriculum

World Religions

  • To discuss religious beliefs, discover what others believe, and learn to appreciate individual heritages;
  • To learn about the connections between religion and the development of civilizations; to consider the influence of religion on contemporary society;
  • To facilitate examination of the connection between human experience and sacred writings;
  • To consider the influence different gender-role expectations have had on the development of religion;
  • To identify the function of religion in the human experience.

Teacher Prompt: Do you think religion is a necessary part of society?

Grades 6-12 English Curriculum

Writing

  • To write for different purposes. See the Activities section for several writing ideas.

Teacher Prompt: Do you think that the novels that spoof classics (such as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) are a good way to introduce people to literature?

 

Understanding Form and Style

  • To recognize a variety of text forms and features, specifically alliteration and rhyming verse.

Teacher Prompt: Do you prefer reading verse or prose? Why?

 

Reading and history of language

  • To examine mystery plays and creation stories from different cultures.

Teacher Prompt: Does your culture have a creation story? If so, what is it?

Grades 6-12 Science Curriculum

Environmental science

  • To facilitate a discussion of the impact of human activities on sustainability of terrestrial and/or aquatic ecosystems;
  • To identify various factors related to human activity that have impacted the Earth.

Teacher Prompt: What is the single most important thing humans can do to reduce their impact on the environment? 

Grades 6-12 Arts Curriculum

Reflecting, responding and analyzing

  • To use critical analysis to respond to dramatic works;
  • To examine the social functions of drama.

Teacher Prompt: What purpose do creation stories serve in a culture?

 

Foundations

  • To learn about the origins and development of drama and theatre (mystery plays).

Teacher Prompt: When you were younger, did you invent plays and stories with your friends? What purpose did they serve?
