Born in Hamilton, pianist Andy Milne studied with Oscar Peterson before moving to the U.S. There he struck up an extended working relationship with the influential saxophonist Steve Coleman, whose bands are graduate seminars in odd rhythms and intense group interplay. As a soloist, he can be sly and surprising, but there’s an abiding warmth and generosity to his playing. He’s comfortable with collaborators as diverse as Bruce Cockburn and William Shatner.
