Building Bridges: behind the scenes at the Associate Dance Artists portrait shoot

The NAC has played a very important part in helping me develop my company. — José Navas

Building Bridges. That was the goal in 2007 when National Arts Centre Executive Producer of Dance, Cathy Levy, established the Associate Dance Artists program. “Canada is such a vast country that many of our finest choreographers had never met, let alone come together as peers to discuss their work,” Ms. Levy says.

This initiative gives them the opportunity to meet and explore ideas with the greatest dance artists in the world. No longer strangers, Canada’s leading choreographers have become a community of artists. As Ms. Levy says, “It is the bridge to a future, when emerging and established artists will be connected at home and abroad.”

These incredible choreographers came together in Ottawa last spring and we took the opportunity to photograph the moment. Get a behind-the-scenes look at the photo shoot in this new video.
