Initially known as the female half of the Montreal-based duo Tricot machine, Catherine Leduc released her first solo album, Rookie, in the fall of 2013. Like a fountain springing from the gulf of today’s folk movement, the album’s lush sound and fragile power are simply bewitching. After reconnecting with her guitar, Catherine took her time adjusting to this new direction and shaping her vision as a singer-songwriter. A few months later she released Rookie, a lyrical journal, a beam of dream pop intermingling animals and sports analogies, a soothing balm of magical folk.

After releasing three albums and winning several awards (Félix for Newcomer of the Year, Grand prix de la relève Archambault, SPACQ Dédé Fortin Prize, Miroir Award at the Festival d'été de Québec, SOCAN ECHO Songwriting Prize), Tricot machine took a break. During that time, Catherine started working on her solo project and exploring a new sound. Preferring the spontaneity of tunes dashed off while sitting in her underwear in the kitchen of her cottage to the constraints of convention, Catherine fixed her gaze on the horizon rather than the rear-view mirror. She managed to persuade her partner, Matthieu Beaumont, to try something novel too. Together they broke new ground, composing all the arrangements for Rookie and producing the album as well.
