Founded in 2002 by Jean-François Gouin and Rizaldo Padilla (guitar), Les Singes Bleus set out to keep alive French classics with their contemporary, manouche/cabaret interpretations. Joined shortly after by Beth Washburn (cornet, alto tuba), Brad Hart (drums); and Rick Walters (bass), Les Singes Bleus entertained Toronto crowds with their festive energy at such venues as the Distillery Jazz festival and the Rex Hotel. Meanwhile, Amélie LeFebvre (vocalist, songwriter) was busy establishing herself as one of Canada's finest chanteuses… so when Jean-François left for France in 2006, Les Singes Bleus wooed her and with not much effort, she got on board to endulge in fine musical monkeying.
