Tricia Foster is launching of her new album, Négligée.

Tricia is no stranger to the Fourth Stage, having performed there a few times. For this appearance she’ll be joined onstage by fellow musicians Cécile Doo Kingué on vocals and Olivier Fairfield on bass.

A lofty six-footer (in heels), describing herself as “a big girl with a lot to say,” Tricia Foster is about to launch her third career album, Négligée. That’s right: Négligée, in the sense of “neglected”! In our ultra-sleek world, Tricia Foster is an avowed non-conformist, finding inspiration not in airbrushed icons but in paradoxes, awkward moments, lapses and organized chaos. In this latest release, produced by Olivier Fairfield (stage musician and member of Iceberg and Timber Timbre), the independent singer-songwriter—who has been charming Canadian audiences for almost a decade—shapes a compelling and sensual musical universe, sometimes dark and primal, sometimes light and lyrical, firmly rooted in the songwriter’s craft even as it flirts with electro and hip hop.

From her very first album, Tricia 412, released in 2004, this singer-songwriter raised in a trailer park in northern Ontario has made no secret of her rebellious and challenging nature and her rejection of certain social conventions. In 2008 she reiterated that stand with Commerciale, in which she denounced notably the absurdities of the music industry—and revealed her sensitive side. She has shocked a few old biddies (and a few journalists) by appearing onstage in crinolines and corsets, had her audiences rolling in the aisles with her ironic humour and zany stories, and brought them to tears with her thoughtful songs about the human experience. She is outrageous, funny, charming and vulnerable, and she detests adjectives!

In the course of her career, Tricia Foster has received numerous prizes and distinctions, including several Trille Or, ROSEQ and Étoile Galaxie awards and the SPACQ award. She has toured extensively in Canada and Europe.

Négligée is about a thirtysomething woman who is far from perfect, the kind who rages at the mirror and at the world, dances with her demons, and explores the depths of her being to confront both the good and the bad. In this third album, Tricia moves from the urban folk vibe of her first two releases to a grittier, more dramatic sound that matches the person she is today. The vocals are more subtle, even whispered; the music and arrangements show influences of trip hop; the sound is muted, textured, with echoes of vinyl LPs, old cabarets and haunted hangars. Moving beyond pop, Tricia has grown into an artist of impressive and authentic creativity whose love of risk can sometimes lead to… self-neglect!
