Lynne Hammond

Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Lynne Hammond has been a member of the violin section of the National Arts Centre Orchestra since 1971. She studied both violin and piano until the age of 18, spending summers in the National Youth Orchestra of Canada after which she decided to focus on the violin.

Ms. Hammond obtained a Master of Music Degree from Indiana University in 1970, where she studied with the legendary Josef Gingold, having also studied with Ivan Galamian at the Juilliard School in New York. She spent three summers at the Meadowmount School of Music, also with Galamian, and two summers at the Aspen Festival, with Dorothy DeLay. She spent a year freelancing in Toronto before joining the NAC Orchestra.

Lynne is passionate about chamber music, and has been deeply committed to the Music for a Sunday Afternoon series. She also played in a National Arts Centre Orchestra quartet for several years.

Interests apart from music include cooking, travelling (these days mainly to the Arctic), animals, vegetable gardening, and enjoying the outdoors.
