Zones Théâtrales to Return in 2015, 2017 and 2019 Thanks to a New Partnership Agreement

The sixth edition of Zones Théâtrales, the biennial showcase of professional theatre from Francophone communities across Canada and the Quebec Regions, will be held September 14–19, 2015, at various venues in Ottawa-Gatineau.

Funding for the 2015, 2017 and 2019 editions of Zones Théâtrales is provided under a new Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by the National Arts Centre, the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Canada Council for the Arts.

Zones Théâtrales artistic director René Cormier will announce details of the 2015 event in May.

The program includes theatre performances, staged readings of new works, panel discussions, and exhibitions, as well as a showcase of plays in development for presenters and promoters, professional development workshops for artists, networking opportunities, and—perhaps most important—plenty of opportunities for participants and audiences to meet and mingle in a festive atmosphere.

Zones Théâtrales is a unique forum where artists from across the country can come together to share experiences and ideas, and network with cultural presenters and promoters.

Zones Théâtrales is one of the concrete ways the National Arts Centre (NAC) fulfils its mandate to support Canada’s French-language minority communities. As in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013, Zones Théâtrales is made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding between the NAC, the Department of Canadian Heritage (Arts Policy Branch and Official Languages Support Programs Branch) and the Canada Council for the Arts.

ABOUT ZONES THÉÂTRALES

Zones Théâtrales grew out of the Quinze Jours de la dramaturgie, launched in 1995 by then NAC French Theatre artistic advisor Jean‑Claude Marcus. In 1999, the event was renamed the Festival du Théâtre des Régions, directed by Maurice Arsenault and produced by NAC French Theatre in partnership with the Association des Théâtres francophones du Canada. The third evolutionary stage was the Festival Zones Théâtrales (2005 and 2007), produced exclusively by NAC French Theatre. The “new” Zones Théâtrales has been directly produced by the NAC since 2009.
