A Musical Gift to Hockey Fans in Maestro Zukerman’s final season

February 13, 2015 – OTTAWA (Canada) – Hockey fans are in for a treat on Monday, February 16, 2015 when world renowned violinist and conductor, Pinchas Zukerman takes to the ice with the National Arts Centre’s Brass Choir to perform the national anthems of Canada and the United States.

The Ottawa Senators will be playing against the Carolina Hurricanes, and while Zukerman has a home in both Canada and the United States, he admits he’s very fond of the Senators.

“I’ve loved the Senators since I moved to Ottawa in 1999. It’s a great moment for me and for the musicians of the National Arts Centre Brass Choir to perform at the Canadian Tire Centre. We’ve performed around the world, but there is something really special about moving music out of the concert hall and into a hockey arena. We are honoured to be performing on Monday night,” said Pinchas Zukerman, Music Director of the NAC Orchestra.

The NAC’s musical team will include 11 members of the NAC’s Brass Choir and Zukerman. The anthems will be performed by musicians playing 5 French Horns, 2 Trumpets, 3 Trombones, and 1 Tuba.

Performing at a hockey game has always been one of Maestro Zukerman’s dreams. He became a hockey fan in his teens when his parents were living briefly in Montreal and they would often go to games in the Montreal Forum. He’s regularly attended hockey games in Ottawa during his 16 year tenure as the Music Director of the National Arts Centre Orchestra.

“We are excited to have Pinchas Zukerman and the NAC’s Brass Choir perform the national anthems on Monday,” said Peter O’Leary, Senators chief marketing officer and vice-president of ticketing. “Knowing Pinchas was a big Sens Fan, we were excited to hear his dream was to perform at a Senators home game. Our fans are in for a real treat as Pinchas and his brass choir bridge music and the love of the game.”
