Pre-concert music, 7 pm: Join us in Southam Hall before the main show for a recital of Mozart’s Piano Sonata in B-flat and Chopin’s Nocturne Op. 9, performed by Anita Pari (piano).

On tonight’s program, Matthias Pintscher conducts three beloved compositions: the complete ballet music for Ma mère l’oye, Mother Goose, depicting cherished fairytales like Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, and Tom Thumb that come to life before your ears.

Then Inon Barnatan (“fine music-making wedded to astounding technique” ~ Washington Post) solos in Ravel’s jazzy Piano Concerto. Finally, experience the “softer side” of Beethoven as you step into his pastoral landscape, complete with bird calls, dancing peasants, a thunderous storm, and a lovely return to calm.
