Lemi Ponifasio established the MAU in 1995 as the name for his work and platform for critical reflection and creativity with artists, scholars, activists, intellectuals, and community leaders. MAU meaning a declaration to the truth of a matter, or revolution, as an effort to transform. Birds With Skymirrors was born following his visit to a remote Pacific island where he caught sight of frigate birds carrying videotape in their beaks, glinting like mirrors. In times of momentous planetary climate change, Birds With Skymirrors is a dance meditation on our relationship with planet Earth.

May 25-26 is Ottawa Race Weekend. Tens of thousands of people will converge on the downtown core, some roads will be closed, and parking may be difficult to find.
We are advising all patrons to PLEASE ALLOW PLENTY OF TIME to get to the NAC and find a place to park.
The NAC garage will be open both days, but please bear in mind that it is a public garage and parking spaces are filled on a first come-first served basis, a ticket to an NAC performance does not guarantee a parking spot and patrons may experience significant delays in entering or exiting during Race Weekend.
