French pianist Simon Denizart, a native of Créteil on the outskirts of Paris, came to Montreal in 2011. In 2013, he formed his SD3 trio with Jeanne Corpataux on bass and Simon Bellemare on drums.

After being invited to play in the new talent competition at the Rimouski Jazz Festival in 2014, the trio won the people's choice award. On the strength of this accolade, the trio went on tour, playing 20 dates across Quebec and gaining immediate popularity. With assistance from the Canadian label The 270 Sessions, the musicians released their debut album Between Two Worlds in September 2015.

In order to gain exposure overseas, the trio made a very successful trip to Europe (France and Poland) in fall 2015. They were chosen as Jazz Discovery of 2016/2017 by Radio-Canada, and their second album, Beautiful People, is scheduled for release in November 2016.

Drawing influence from world music and European jazz, SD3's music, while soft and full of feeling, always remains dynamic, with subtle but accessible melodies.
