We begin our 2016/17 season with Colours of Europe – to celebrate 40 years of Canada-EU diplomatic relations (hosted by the EU Ambassador, H.E. Marie-Anne Coninsx). We start right in the heart of Europe with the suite from Richard Strauss’s beloved Der Rosenkavalier followed by the sparkle of Chopin’s Grande Polonaise Brillante with the major Canadian piano talent Tony Yang who, at sixteen, was a prize-winner in the latest Chopin International Piano Competition. Then we visit the majestic Moldau from Smetana’s Ma Vlast. Italy gets a look in with Verdi’s Triumphal March and Ballet from Aida. The concert closes with the rustic charm of French composer Bizet’s L’Arlésienne Suite No. 2.
