Few artists in any genre have been as prolific and as far reaching as trumpeter Dave Douglas. Since setting out as a leader in 1993, he has recorded more than 40 albums – records that span an enormous range, from Balkan-inspired trios, to special projects paying tribute to Joni Mitchell and Booker Little, to music inspired by silent film, to music for dance. At 52, Douglas is also recognized as an important music educator, holding masterclasses around the world and having served for a decade as the director of the Banff Workshop in Jazz & Creative Music. Constantly at the top of the polls as a trumpeter, composer, and bandleader, Douglas refuses to sit still. His new project, High Risk, features the highly inventive drummer Mark Guiliana, bassist Jonathan Maron, and Detroit-based EDM artist Shigeto. Says Douglas: “High Risk is a new electric group involving electronics, improvisation, and beats.”
