In pushing the technical avant-garde of experimental music in the Internet Age, few musicians are as innovative as Sweden’s Nils Berg Cinemascope. That is, there are the musicians themselves, reed-player Berg along with drummer Christopher Cantillo and bassist Josef Kallerdahl, and then there is their performance as the Cinemascope collectively. This is an altogether different animal than simple music: in this project, Berg and his collaborators mine clips of singers and musicians from around the world from YouTube and other video streaming sites, edit these into projectable video remixes presented as virtual guest musicians, and play live along with them. This peculiar setup allows them to accompany a young singing Afghan shepherd, a Swedish choir in rehearsal, a Bhutanese girl singing in the open air, or a Pakistani wedding singer giving a private concert in a hotel room.
