Friends of English Theatre

The Friends of English Theatre (FET) has existed as an organization since September 2001. It is a community-based group that supports the English Theatre of the National Arts Centre. Such support is provided as required, either financially and/or through hands-on help at various English Theatre events.

FET offers its members opportunities to learn more about the theatre through volunteering and through meetings with fellow theatre lovers at informal social events.
FET also organizes trips to see plays outside of Ottawa throughout the year. Destinations include Toronto, Montreal, Stratford, Niagara-on-the-Lake and occasionally beyond.

Mandate

The Friends of English Theatre takes responsibility for supporting the activities of the English Theatre of the National Arts Centre, through:

  • Volunteer support
  • Modest fundraising in support of audience outreach and play development
  • Providing an opportunity for like-minded individuals who are interested in English-language theatre to share, socialize and learn more about the theatre

In Memorium

Alan Wheatley

Alan Wheatley was a theatre volunteer par excellence and was amongst the very first members of FET. His favourite activity was conducting backstage tours of the NAC. He passed away September 2007.

Joan Ayotte

We are saddened by the death of member, Joan Ayotte, who passed away in February 2009. She was an exemplary volunteer who loved all that theatre has to offer . We will miss seeing her in and around the NAC as well as on our theatre trips out of town. FET will make a contribution to the Marti Maraden Play Development Fund in Joan’s memory.

George Kadar

Another of our members, George Kadar, passed away in November, 2009. We will always remember George and all the things that characterized him: his love of life, his smile, his enthusiasm for whatever occupied his attention. His love and support for theatre were legendary. FET will make a contribution to the Marti Maraden Play Development Fund in George’s memory.
