Our Stories are Medicine

Indigenous Theatre welcomes you back to experience an incredible season of Indigenous stories and artistry with works as beautiful as auntie’s beaded moccasins. Warm yourself by the #ReconcileThis fire, lit by an amazing lineup of multi-disciplinary artists, at our season opening celebration Papakanje. Like uncle’s '57 Chevy on a Saturday night, Bear Grease will have you rocking and rolling to this Indigenous take on an old classic. Women of the Fur Trade is a hilariously witty satire, showcasing women’s power in the past and present through the lens of the rapidly changing world of the fur trade. In partnership with NACO, Spirit Horse Returns brings the story of the Ojibwe Horses to Southam Hall. These beautiful and intelligent animals—long thought extinct—are thriving, and the Ojibwe communities who revere them are the inspiration for this musical journey. Vástádus eana / The answer is land is a stunning physical testimonial from the Sami homelands of Northern Sweden, presented as our international Indigenous offering in partnership with NAC Dance. From Gemini award-winning actor Michelle Thrush, find power and resilience in the face of adversity through laughter and understanding with Inner Elder—her one-woman show that will stir your spirit and warm your heart. And finally, wrap yourself in the warm embrace of an epic Métis love story as we follow two souls braided together in love and time in Tai Amy Grauman’s You used to call me Marie...
