Fourth Stage,1 Elgin Street,Ottawa,CanadaUmbrellas will be the culmination of Discovery University's "Improvisation in Theory and Practice” course. Organized by the Ottawa Mission, the Discovery University program provides free university-level courses--taught by university professors--to people who might not otherwise be able attend university. This semester, the "Improvisation in Theory and Practice” course was designed and taught by Juno award-winning percussionist (and Carleton University music professor) Jesse Stewart who worked with the class over the past two months to examine improvisation as a musical and social process, and to develop this collaborative piece. Umbrellas will combine old and new music technologies to create a one-of-a-kind performance that celebrates musical improvisation and freedom of expression.
Tickets are FREE and are available through the NAC Box Office on a first-come, first-serve basis. Donations to the Ottawa Mission will be accepted at the performance.
