Le Théâtre français at the National Arts Centre invites children and teens to write a performance critique for a Théâtre français student matinée or public performance that you have seen, then send it to us!
We invite teachers to encourage your students to write a critique following a class visit to the NAC. This exercise can prove very educational and is intended to enrich the theatre experience, as well as help students think about new or different aspects of the performance they saw. For students 8 years old and younger the written text could be replaced by a drawing.
When you arrive at the NAC for a Théâtre français student matinée or children/youth theatre performance, we will provide you with program notes for the performance, as well as an analysis chart to guide students with their critique.
A small jury will evaluate the texts received. Texts will be judged on the quality of analysis and language used. One winning text will be chosen for each production. All winning texts will then be published on our website and in a collection of works. This collection will be sent to schools in the Ottawa-Gatineau region, to subscribers of our children/youth theatre programming and to the children/youth theatre companies visiting this season. Winners will additionally receive tickets for another young people’s theatre performance at the NAC, and have the privilege of meeting the artists from the show (subject to artists’ availability).
