In the aftermath of an epidemic that has decimated almost an entire population, survivors wander in search of a better world. Eric and Zoé, brother and sister, have left their town and embarked on a long and perilous journey to the United States in search of their father. But many dangers lurk along the way: they’re being followed by an unpredictable young woman armed with a rifle, and a mysterious and visionary man trying to find his place in this New World.

Presented as a staged reading at Zones Théâtrales 2017, this thriller by award-winning playwright Mishka Lavigne acquires a whole new relevance in this post-pandemic era. Backed by a soundscape developed in collaboration with Transistor Média, Éric Perron’s pared-down staging gives free rein to the text’s allusive character. Murs questions what is left of our humanity when civilization collapses. Powerful and luminous.

Mishka Lavigne is a playwright and theatre translator. Her play Cinéma, coproduced by Théâtre la Catapulte and Théâtre Belvédère in April 2015, is published by Éditions l’Interligne. During the 2015–16 season, thanks to a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts, Mishka was the artist in residence at Théâtre la Catapulte, where she worked on her play Havre. Her first play in English, Albumen, was recently developed in the United States. Her monologue Vigile, written for Théâtre Rouge Écarlate and Théâtre du Trillium, was staged in March 2017. Current writing projects include Copeaux, based on the work of visual artist Stefan Thompson, with director Éric Perron, and Shorelines, a play in English, with artist Emily Pearlman. Mishka is a member of the English-language playreading committee of the Maison Antoine-Vitez in Paris. Her latest play, Murs, will be given a staged reading at Zones Théâtrales 2017.

Mishka Lavigne est autrice dramatique, traductrice littéraire et scénariste basée à Ottawa/Gatineau. Ses textes ont été produits et développés au Canada, en Suisse, en France, en Allemagne, en Australie, à Haïti, au Mexique et aux États-Unis. Sa pièce Havre a remporté le Prix littéraire du Gouverneur Général (Théâtre francophone, 2019). Son texte Copeaux, une création poétique de théâtre de mouvement développée avec le metteur en scène Éric Perron a été produit à Ottawa en mars 2020 et a remporté le Prix littéraire Jacques-Poirier en février 2021 et le Prix du Gouverneur Général en novembre 2021, en plus d’être finaliste au Prix Marcel-Dubé. Albumen, son premier texte en anglais, a reçu le QWF Playwriting Award en 2020.

On a pu récemment voir son texte Shorelines sur scène à Ottawa, dans une mise en scène de Nicholas Leno, et on pourra bientôt voir une production de Créations In Vivo de son texte Murs, texte aussi adapté en format balado par Transistor Médias en 2022. Mishka signe, de plus, l'écriture d'un premier livret d'opéra de chambre, Information, pour le compositeur montréalais Tim Brady dont la production aura lieu à Montréal en 2024.

Mishka est aussi traductrice et signe une vingtaine de traductions de théâtre, de prose et de poésie.
